Pride of Our Footscray is curating a special showcase of queer short films by local creatives for a one-night-only event on Thursday, August 28th, 2025. This screening is part of our beloved monthly Pride Movie Nights, and we're putting the spotlight on LGBTQ+ stories from our vibrant community.
If you're a queer filmmaker or have created a film with LGBTQ+ themes, we’d love to hear from you. Selected films will be screened live at Pride, with a chance to engage with audiences, network with fellow creatives, and celebrate the power of queer storytelling.

Preferred content: Queer-themed short films (≤ 20 minute long)
Other films: Queer filmmakers are welcome to submit non-LGBTQ+ themed shorts
Attendance: A filmmaker or crew member must be available to attend the event on August 28, 2025
Submission fee: FREE
Deadline: Submit by 11:59 PM, June 30, 2025

❓ FAQ
What format and length should the films be?
For submissions, we prefer MP4 files, or you can share a private YouTube or Vimeo link.
As for length, we’re ideally looking for films between 5–20 minutes, but we’re open to considering shorter or longer films if they’re a good fit.
Can I submit a student film?
Yes! All experience levels are welcome.
Can non-LGBTQ+ filmmakers submit?
If your film has LGBTQ+ themes, yes. If not, you must be a queer-identifying filmmaker to submit. Allies are warmly invited to attend and support.
Can I submit more than one film?
Absolutely. Multiple entries are welcome.
Will there be awards or judging?
No formal judging or awards — just a celebration of queer storytelling with community support.
How many films will be shown?
We plan to screen 4–6 films, depending on the total runtime of selected works.
I’m from Melbourne but living elsewhere right now. Can I submit?
Filmmakers from anywhere can submit, but we do ask that a representative or crew member attends the screening in person if selected.
What’s the size of the screen at the event?
Our screen is 195 x 260 cm, set on stage. It’s the same screen we use for our monthly Pride Movie Nights.
When and how will I know if my film is selected?
We’ll contact selected filmmakers via email shortly after the submission deadline (30th June). In some cases, we might reach out earlier to confirm a few details.
What happens if my film isn’t selected for the showcase night?
At the moment, the only confirmed screening is on the 28th of August 2025. However, we’re open to hosting more short film nights, depending on the number and quality of submissions we receive.
If your film isn’t selected for the first event, it will automatically be considered for future showcases. Stay tuned for updates from us!
